Copyright is a statutory right that is granted to authors giving them the exclusive right to control the reproduction, distribution, performance, adaptation and display of their works of authorship. Some examples of material that may obtain copyright protection include, books, articles, paintings, sculptures, designs and musical scores.
The U.S. constitution provides that Congress shall have the power to grant these rights, the copyright clause gives congress the power “ to promote the progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for a limited time to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and inventions.
